You asked them, we answered them...
Q: Bear, you had a book out on riding in Oz (went hand-in-hand with the Atlas). Is this still available? Cheers Keith
A: Hi, Keith. Yes, in fact there are two.
The older one (I think we still have a few copies) is called “Motorcycling in Australia”, and the newer one is called “On the Road Again” and contains great Australian 52 rides. Both are available from me at $27.50 each; cheque or money order to the address below, please.

Q: Yo, I saw your article on touring WA a few months back and wondered how a piece like that, picked from the pages of the local 'welcome to WA brochure' could make the cut and get published. sheer dearth of other submissions I suppose. Anyway, I wonder how I could put in an article about some good riding roads around here. I live in collie WA, 200ks south of perth and know the local area in detail. I'm also an expert photographer, see http://www.flickr.com/photos/dalinean/4495076267/ etc. taken with minimal equipment. So, how many words? and How much does it pay?? I don't have a bike, I'm a broke 50+ wannabe. thanks andy
A: Hi, Andy. Interesting way to ask for work, by insulting the editor. I presume you’re referring to the piece we put together for the Ulyssians going to Albany. We thought we’d done quite a good job with that. We’re always pleased to get “ride” pieces (1000 words, half a dozen photos) but I’m afraid we don’t pay for readers’ submissions.

Q: I was on your weekend at Natural Bridge a couple of years ago and enjoyed the rides. I will be unable to attend the Bristol Va weekend since I have a commitment in Florida in mid July. However, I will be on tour the first week in June and would love to experience the rides you have selected for the Bristol meeting if you woould be willing to share the routes with me ahead of time. Many thanks, Bill
A: Bill I hate to say this but I have no idea what you mean.

Q: To Whom It May Concern: Hi I am currently doing a uni assignment to open up a new motor inn specifically designed for bike riders, im just after any statistics for motorcycle touring such as what groups of people age, type or sex etc do the most touring. I cant seem to find anything for this if you could provide me with anything that would be great! Cheers!
A: Hi, Christina. I don’t think anyone has those figures as such. Nobody, to the best of my knowledge, has ever done the research.
Having said that, take a look at www.ulyssesclub.org and see if you can find someone there to ask. Also try the motorcycle division of the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries: website,
www.fcai.com.au.
Best of luck,
The Bear
Q: Hi Bear,
Love the mag. I have a 2005 Vulcan 1600 Classic with 28000 km on the clock. Great bike but what I am after is an improvement to the standard
exhaust. It sounds a little bit better than a sewing machine with the standard pipes -- but not a whole lot better. I like the look of the standard pipes and I am not looking to spend nearly $2K on Vance & Hines or similar. What I am chasing is someone in Perth who can alter the existing pipes to give it a better sound. I know that there are some people on the east coast who will do this for me but I am not keen to send the pipes over. If you or any Perth riders can help out with some suggestions I would really appreciate it.
cheers ........Owen Goyder
Perth Western Australia
A: Hello Owen, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you; you could try Foran Exhausts on the Central coast Dennis Foran,
dinny@smartchat.net.au otherwise Cobra do do pipes and they can be contacted thru Link International in Qld 07 3382 5000
Cheers
John
Q: Hi, Just enquiry on posible options for travel insurance on motor bike touring holidays overseas. Have you run a story about this in an
earlier issue that I can reference Thanks Malcolm
A: Have covered it in Ride Guide. Working on it again, Malcolm. Soon.

Q: i keep going to your directory and keep getting the 'coming soon' page... how soon is soon. i would like a directory of motorcycle freindly accomodation. i ride to the island twice a year taking different routes each time and it would be great and very popular to have a site that contains this info. such as the price, position in town, do they garage bikes, do they lock up bike in their yard, etc. my wife and i both ride and tour qld and northern nsw. on weekends and we stay at pubs but sadly some of them don't 'have accomodation' especially when your wet through. given up on motels due to cost and rejection. so please get your act together and set up a page with bike friendly accomodation it is needed and would be used by many... russ
A: Hi, Russ.
I’d love to run a comprehensive accommodation directory, and we’ve been trying to make one work for a while now – as you’ve noticed.
The problem is that this kind of thing relies on advertising support. Some of those venues, at least, need to be prepared to put in a bit of cash, because compiling a directory properly is an expensive business. I’m not talking about cash for comment, just some direct support for the concept with a little ad. Unfortunately that support has not been forthcoming. It seems that few venues if any are seriously interested in making themselves known to motorcyclists. So we’re still trying, but it’s an uphill battle. Websites can easily become bottomless pits with no return for the publisher. Here’s a thought. Are you over 40? If you are, I can recommend the Ulysses Club’s online accommodation guide. It’s not checked – the recommendations come from members, and are run as they are – but it is pretty useful.
Sorry I can’t be more help.
Best regards,
The Bear
Q: Accomodation recomendation Tasmania ride anywhere it's great. But try the Westbury Gingerbread cottages.(Westbury) Your hosts Karen and John will look after you, fresh home made bread fresh cake or biscuits that are prepared for you on arrival all condiments you need thrown in, breakfast cereals, bacon and eggs supplied and all for what we thought a very resonable price, there were 4 of us so that made it 62.50 each and the pub is an easy walk even when your boots are uneven and Westbury is surrounded by some great roads
A:Thank you for the recommendation, Wazza.
You’re right, there’s a lot of great riding around there.

The Bear
Q: Hi sam here from victoria Firstly ld like to comment on such a good magazine and look forward to reading them. I wondering if it was possible to get some contact details off you for Noel Muller who built the 2003 hayabusa chopper "Bent Busa" you have article on as l have just purchased the bike and looking at getting it engineered in victoria and really need to get in contact with him. thankyou
A: Hi, Sam.
Congratulations!
Unfortunately we don’t keep address details, for various reasons.
What I can do is put your request for contact on the website. Are you happy for me to put your phone number on there?
Best regards,
The Bear
Q: Hey Bear/Litigator, Am upgrading to a Triumph and as the anal ex seaman officer/lawyer I cant find through research anything about the corporate "Triumph", directors etc. I know it is a private company now owned by a builder, but that dont give me no confidence (like my last piece of writing). Can you shed some light? Aye, Lucas
A: Hi, Lucas.
You weren’t named after British electrics, were you?
The owner of Triumph is John Bloor, who is indeed a builder (a big one, needless to say) and who once told me that “You can’t serve two masters. You either do what’s good for your customers, or what’s good for the banks.”
I’ve trusted him ever since then. I’m copying this to the bloke who runs Triumph in Australia; maybe he’ll be interested in doing something to enlighten you and, I assume, a lot of other people who’d be interested in finding out more about the new Triumph.
Best regards,
The Bear
Q: Greetings from Perth. I am looking for a replacment liner for a Nolan N102 Helmet with NCom system. Size desired is Large. Thks in advance
for your time. Paul
A: Hi, mate.
Sorry, but I've never heard of a helmet manufacturer making replacement liners available.
You could try Ron Angel Imports, they distribute Nolan.

Q: Hi Peter and readers, I have purchased several of the cylindrical rego label holders and think they are great and note they are still advertised for sale. however my latest QLD rego label sheet has stated on the back that they do not meet the visibility requirements could you make people aware of this
A: Thank you, Roy.
We think the ruling against the label holders is wrong in law, but someone needs to test the case in court.
We’re trying to get one of the manufacturers to do that now.
Best regards,
The Bear
