Australian pre-orders have opened for Suzuki’s 40th Anniversary GSX-R1000R which will be priced from $30,990 when it lands at dealerships in August this year.
Suzuki Motorcycles Australia has confirmed local pricing and opened online pre-orders for the 40th Anniversary GSX-R1000R, marking four decades since the launch of the original GSX-R750 that redefined the superbike category in 1985.
The special edition model is priced at $30,990 ride away and can now be reserved through Suzuki’s online Build and Order platform at this link. Buyers can secure their motorcycle with a minimum $1000 deposit, nominate their preferred Suzuki dealer and complete the order process online.
Australian deliveries are scheduled to begin in August 2026, with the first shipment expected to arrive later in the year.
Suzuki is also offering an incentive for early adopters. The first 40 confirmed online pre-orders will receive a Collectors Garage Pack, which includes a 40th Anniversary garage mat, a custom indoor bike cover and a bike stand with bobbins. The items will be delivered with the motorcycle when it arrives in Australia.
The 40th Anniversary GSX-R1000R celebrates 40 years of GSX-R heritage, a lineage that began with the lightweight GSX-R750 and went on to reshape the sportbike category. The GSX-R1000 joined the range in 2001, quickly establishing itself as one of the benchmark machines in production-based superbike racing.
Since its debut, the GSX-R1000 platform has achieved considerable success on track, including 15 FIM Endurance World Championship titles, reinforcing the model’s reputation for durability and race-winning performance.
The anniversary edition continues that tradition while incorporating updates to meet the latest emissions and noise regulations.
Under the bodywork sits the familiar 999cc liquid-cooled inline four-cylinder engine, paired with a six-speed transmission featuring a back-torque-limiting clutch. The engine remains at the heart of the GSX-R’s track-focused character, delivering the strong top-end performance and razor-sharp throttle response expected of a litre-class superbike.
Chassis specification remains suitably high-end. At the front is a 43mm Showa Balance Free Front fork with adjustable compression and rebound damping along with spring preload adjustment. At the rear, a Showa Balance Free Rear Cushion Lite shock provides adjustable high- and low-speed compression damping as well as rebound and preload adjustment.
Braking performance is handled by Brembo radial-mount monobloc four-piston calipers gripping dual 320mm T-drive discs at the front, backed by ABS. A 220mm rear disc with a Nissin single-piston caliper completes the system.
The chassis geometry remains compact and purposeful, with a 1420mm wheelbase, 825mm seat height and a claimed 203kg wet weight. Fuel capacity is 16.0L, while Bridgestone Battlax RS11 tyres – 120/70ZR17 front and 190/55ZR17 rear – provide track-ready grip.
What distinguishes the anniversary model visually are several unique styling elements.
All Australian-delivered bikes will come fitted with carbon winglets and a colour-matched seat cowl as standard equipment, adding a subtle aerodynamic edge and emphasising the GSX-R1000R’s race-inspired design.
Suzuki will offer the bike in three heritage-inspired colour schemes celebrating four decades of GSX-R performance:
• Pearl Vigor Blue / Pearl Tech White
• Candy Daring Red / Pearl Tech White
• Pearl Ignite Yellow / Metallic Mat Stellar Blue
While Suzuki has produced numerous GSX-R special editions over the years, the 40th Anniversary GSX-R1000R carries particular significance as it commemorates one of the most influential model families in modern motorcycling.
Four decades on from the arrival of the original GSX-R, Suzuki’s flagship superbike remains closely tied to the brand’s racing DNA – a machine designed with performance at its core while continuing to evolve with modern technology and regulation.
With online pre-orders now open and the first Australian shipment due in August 2026, the anniversary GSX-R1000R is likely to attract strong interest from both collectors and riders keen to secure a piece of GSX-R history.
