The Vespa GTS 80th Anniversary Edition will arrive in Australia in September, priced from $15,390 ride away and supplied with $1600 worth of commemorative accessories.
Vespa will mark its 80th anniversary with a limited-edition version of its flagship GTS 300 Super Tech, due to arrive in Australian dealerships in September.
Priced from $15,390 ride away, the Vespa GTS 80th Anniversary Edition will be offered in limited numbers and comes with a colour-matched topbox, matching passenger backrest, folding chrome luggage rack and an Assouline Vespa coffee-table book.
The fitted topbox, backrest and luggage rack are valued at $1220, while the 292-page Assouline book has an RRP of $380, bringing the total value of the included extras to $1600.
The anniversary model is finished in a dedicated Verde Pastello colour inspired by the green used on some of the earliest Vespa models and drawn from the Piaggio archives.
The colour extends beyond the steel bodywork to the front shield trim, passenger grab handle, mirrors, switchgear and front suspension, with a combination of gloss and satin finishes.
Other unique details include a handcrafted tone-on-tone saddle, matching handgrips, floorboard inserts and rear shield trim.
The diamond-cut wheels reference the enclosed wheel design of the original 1946 Vespa 98 and feature an ‘Est. 1946’ inscription, while 80th Anniversary badging is fitted to the front shield.
Underneath the anniversary styling, the limited-edition model retains the specification of the GTS 300 Super Tech, including a 4.3-inch TFT display, Vespa MIA smartphone connectivity, full LED lighting and keyless ignition.
Vespa traces its origins to April 23, 1946, when the first model was launched in Pontedera, Italy, as a simple and affordable form of personal transport in the aftermath of World War II.
Since then, more than 20 million Vespas have been produced across more than 160 model variants.
The scooter has also become a cultural and design icon, with Salvador Dalí customising a Vespa for his wife Gala in 1962, while Giorgio Armani, Christian Dior and Justin Bieber have all collaborated with the company on their own interpretations.
The Vespa GTS 80th Anniversary Edition is scheduled to arrive at authorised Australian Vespa dealerships in September.
