TESTED: AGV K7 SUPER 46

Light, compact and well sorted, the AGV K7 Super 46 blends sporty stability with touring comfort.

AGV’s K7 lands in that sweet spot where a helmet can feel special without being a full-blown track lid. It’s pitched as the perfect balance between sportiness and touring, and at the beginning of my relationship with the Super 46 version, that description feels about right.

My first roadbike helmet was an AGV — a bloody long time ago — and I’ve owned several since, so I went into the K7 confident with a medium (57–58). Sizing proved spot on. The K7 is snug without being claustrophobic, and the wide opening makes it easy to get on and off — a detail that matters when you’re commuting, swapping bikes or just wriggling into a helmet on a hot day.

On paper, the K7 is all about compact strength. It uses a composite fibre shell with three shell sizes and four EPS sizes to better match head shapes, and it’s ECE22.06 approved. AGV also includes its collarbone safe profile — a track-derived shape designed to help reduce collarbone injury risk in a crash. It’s the kind of safety thinking you hope you never need, but you’re glad is there.

Ventilation is a highlight. The K7 uses AGV’s Air Diffusion Crownpad Technology, and in real riding it delivers. Vents are easy to find and easy to operate with gloves on, with a chin vent up front, multiple top vents and rear extractors working together to keep air moving through the helmet. Even on hot days it doesn’t feel stuffy, and you can fine-tune airflow without fuss.

The eye port offers a strong field of view, helped by AGV’s Ultravision panoramic visor design. The main visor locks down securely via a button-release system. It takes a little familiarisation at first, but it soon becomes second nature and adds peace of mind at speed. The integrated internal sun visor is another win, operated by a lever on the left-hand side. It’s simple, positive and genuinely useful when you want to crack the main visor for a bit of air but still keep the glare under control.

Comfort is right up there with safety. The interior uses soft fabrics with DrySpeed treatment to pull sweat away quickly, and the fit is glasses-friendly too — I tried a pair of sunnies and they slipped in without pressure points. At highway speeds on a nakedbike there was minimal buffeting, even when turning my head to check traffic, which speaks to the wind-tunnel development and the helmet’s integrated spoiler.

I’m not a huge fan of the steel micrometric retention system — I still prefer a Double-D setup — but it’s convenient, quick and adjustable, which suits the K7’s everyday brief.

I’ve also been running AGV’s optional GT8-1 Iridium Gold visor. It looks the business, and it’s scratch resistant, antifog and Max Pinlock-ready, making it a worthwhile add-on if you want the Super 46 to stand out even more.

Overall, the K7 feels like a genuinely well-rounded midrange lid with excellent safety and comfort, equally suited to commuting as it is to long days in the saddle.
