BMW Motorrad has revealed the R 12 G/S GS Trophy Competition Bike that will tackle the 2026 International GS Trophy in Romania.
BMW Motorrad has presented the bike that will be used in the 2026 International GS Trophy, revealing a competition-prepped version of the BMW R 12 G/S.
The BMW R 12 G/S GS Trophy Competition Bike will be used when the International GS Trophy returns to Europe in the late northern summer of 2026, with Romania set to host the event.
First held in 2008, the GS Trophy is BMW Motorrad’s international adventure-riding competition, bringing together country teams for a mix of off-road riding, navigation, teamwork and special challenges.
For 2026, competitors will face Romania’s mix of mountains, forests, rivers, villages and rugged terrain, with the R 12 G/S selected as the competition platform.
The GS Trophy Competition Bike is based on the BMW R 12 G/S but gains a specific accessory package for the event. BMW says it has been designed exclusively for the competition, although customers will be able to configure a similar machine using the production R 12 G/S as a starting point.
The competition bike is finished in Lightwhite uni, with blue tank tapes and a red seat referencing BMW Motorrad Motorsport colours. The overall look is deliberately purposeful, with the retro-inspired R 12 G/S given a more serious off-road appearance.
Equipment includes BMW’s Comfort Package, which adds Hill Start Control, Gear Shift Assist Pro, heated grips and cruise control. It also gets Headlight Pro with adaptive cornering light, Riding Modes Pro and the Enduro Package Pro.
That Enduro Package Pro brings off-road tyres, an 18-inch rear wheel and handlebar risers, all aimed at improving its capability in rough conditions.
Further additions include engine protection bars, cylinder head covers, a Rally cockpit fairing, navigation preparation, an Akrapovič silencer and a 5L tank bag, which is used as a rear bag on the GS Trophy Competition Bike.
While the exact GS Trophy machine will not be offered as a production model, BMW says customers can recreate it closely through the R 12 G/S options and accessories catalogue, with only minor differences such as the event-specific decals.
The standard R 12 G/S is BMW’s modern interpretation of the classic boxer-powered G/S formula, with retro styling and a stronger off-road focus than the roadster-based R 12 models.
BMW Motorrad says the 2026 GS Trophy in Romania will provide an authentic off-road test for the R 12 G/S, with competitors expected to encounter a wide range of natural terrain and riding conditions.
