Black Pup Moto ‘Ol Bobber 2’ jacket earns five-star MotoCAP rating.
Australian gear brand Black Pup Moto has scored a major safety win, with its Ol Bobber 2 leather jacket awarded a five-star protection rating by independent testing authority MotoCAP.
The classic-styled jacket achieved an overall MotoCAP Protection Rating of 76.7, underpinned by outstanding results in abrasion and burst strength testing. Abrasion resistance recorded a perfect 10/10 score, while seam burst strength also achieved 10/10, demonstrating the jacket’s ability to withstand the forces typically experienced in a crash.
Impact protection was rated 8/10, with the Ol Bobber 2 supplied as standard with removable armour in the elbows, shoulders and back. MotoCAP testing showed good coverage and acceptable force transmission levels from the protectors, contributing strongly to the five-star result.
The jacket features a leather outer with mesh inner lining, plus zipped vents in the shoulders, arms and back to aid airflow. Breathability testing returned a modest one-star result with the vents closed, though MotoCAP noted ventilation is likely to improve significantly when the vents are opened.
A removable thermal liner is included, while pockets are provided for elbow, shoulder and back armour. The jacket was tested in sizes S and XL, with the assessment applying to the male all-purpose leather model.
With an RRP of $539, the result positions the Ol Bobber 2 as one of the best-performing retro-style leather jackets yet assessed by MotoCAP.
