ASBK SUMMER RACING SERIES TO BEGIN IN 2027

ASBK Summer racing series to kick off in 2027.

Motorcycling Australia has announced a major shake-up for the mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship, presented by Motul (ASBK), with the ASBK Summer racing series set to begin from 2027.

The move — described by MA as a “new era” for Australian superbike racing — will align ASBK with major international championships such as WorldSBK and MotoAmerica.

Short 2026 Transition Season

Before the full summer switch, a shorter five-round 2026 season will act as the transition year, kicking off at Phillip Island alongside WorldSBK from 20-22 February and concluding with the ASBK Grand Finale at Queensland Raceway on 26-28 June.

The 2026 season will feature 11 Superbike races across those five rounds:

Why the Change?

Motorcycling Australia CEO Peter Doyle said the move has been years in the making.

“We now have the support of the manufacturers, industry and our partners,” Doyle said. “ASBK racing in the summer months aims to bring more fans to the trackside enjoying sunny weather and great racing — and with more eyes watching our TV broadcasts without competition from football codes and other sports.”

The summer format also opens the door for international riders to compete during their off-season, increasing exposure and competitiveness across the field.

Teams Championship and Podium Changes

From 2026, ASBK will introduce an all-new Teams Championship for the Superbike and Supersport classes, recognising the collective effort behind the riders.

The presentation format will also change, with only the top three from each race receiving trophies — ending the tradition of the ‘overall round’ podium.

Looking Ahead

Final details on the 2027 summer calendar and class structures are expected in the coming weeks, but the 2026 transition season will mark the beginning of a bold new chapter for ASBK.
