MV Agusta has revealed a new 5-cylinder engine platform that features a modular 850-1150cc design promised to deliver over 240hp and class-defining compactness.
MV Agusta has pulled the covers back a little further on one of the biggest surprises from EICMA 2025 – its all-new 5-cylinder engine platform, an advanced powerplant now in active development at the company’s Schiranna headquarters in Italy.
The new “quadrato” 5-cylinder has been engineered as a modular platform spanning 850cc to 1150cc and is intended to underpin future Supersport, Naked and Touring models. MV says the configuration delivers the brand’s trademark blend of performance, emotion and mechanical artistry, but with a level of refinement and compactness not achievable with four- or six-cylinder designs.
Despite its broad displacement scope, the new engine is aimed squarely at the top end of the performance spectrum. MV Agusta claims the platform will produce more than 240 horsepower at over 16,000rpm, and up to 135Nm at 8,500rpm, while weighing under 60kg in complete form. Electric water and oil pumps are integrated into the design to improve efficiency and response.
According to MV, the advantages of the five-cylinder layout are core to its character. The unique firing order delivers strong, usable torque without requiring variable valve timing, while maintaining exceptional smoothness. The cranktrain itself features a distinctive “U-shaped” architecture, with a three-cylinder front crankshaft paired to a twin-cylinder rear crankshaft to reduce vibration and enhance balance.
The result, MV says, is an engine narrower than an inline-four and shorter than a V4 — a combination that offers both packaging freedom and the potential for new levels of performance in future machines.
The first motorcycle to use the new 5-cylinder platform will debut in the coming years and will revive a model name currently absent from MV Agusta’s line-up.
