The best motorcycle roads in Eastern Europe?

Transalpina or Transfăgărășan? The answer to this hotly-debated topic will be discovered on the inaugural Transylvanian Trek.

Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson calls the Transfăgărășan “the most amazing road we have ever seen”. Also known as Ceausescu’s Folly, it was built by the Romanian army as a guard against possible Soviet invasion in the early 1970’s. The Transalpina, on the other hand, has a long and storied history, following an original Roman road that was paved in the Carpathian Mountains, the Transalpina features the UrdelePass, the highest paved point in Romania at 2145 meters above sea level. Both roads are closed 7 or more months of the year due to wintry weather conditions. Riders can experience both of these challenging routes and many more on Beach’s motorcycle Adventures first- ever Transylvanian Trek.

What makes a great motorcycling road? 41 years of running motorcycle tours in the Alps make Rob Beach uniquely qualified to answer. “It’s a mindset, about looking down, rather than up, about seeing the world from the perspective of a hawk, about climbing, up and over, the most amazing mountains.”

Along with challenging roads and high mountain passes, participants will explore tiny villages, UNESCO World Heritage sites, and much more, including Poienari Fortress, home of Romanian hero Vlad III the Impaler. The motorcycle tour departs from Bratislava, the capital city of Slovakia, which, along with nearby Vienna, were the heart of Eastern Europe for centuries. This ever-changing mix of historic venues, pristine natural settings, exciting riding, superb accommodations and camaraderie is unique to a Beach’s Motorcycle Adventure. The once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to participate in this first-ever scouting tour for future Transylvanian Trek is not to be missed!

Motorcyclists will have ample opportunity to explore the EU’s newest member, Romania, along with Slovakia, Hungary, Poland and Ukraine, during Beach’s Motorcycle Adventures maiden tour, the Transylvanian Trek, taking place July 28-August 11, 2013.
