SW-MOTECH supports Jemma Wilson’s 10,000km outback odyssey.

Australian enduro champion Jemma Wilson has completed an unforgettable 10,000km outback odyssey – an unsupported adventure ride across some of Australia’s most remote and demanding terrain, partnering with German luggage specialist SW-MOTECH for the epic journey.

Joined by her dad Ted, the father-daughter team rode from Gympie in Queensland to Broome in Western Australia and back, tackling the Simpson Desert via the iconic French Line along the way.

With no support vehicles or backup, the pair relied entirely on their preparation, experience and equipment to carry them across some of the harshest landscapes in the country.

A TRUE OUTBACK ADVENTURE

The journey took Wilson and her father deep into Australia’s remote interior, including the Simpson Desert’s relentless sand dunes, the rugged MacDonnell Ranges, and the notoriously punishing Tanami Road.

Their route ran from Gympie to Mt Dare, then to Alice Springs for servicing, before continuing through the Northern Territory to Broome. The return leg crossed the Kimberley region before heading back across the country to Queensland, completing a round trip of approximately 10,000km.

“My Dad is a real adventure guy and crossing the Simpson and seeing more of the Kimberley and western Queensland is something he always wanted to do on a bike,” Wilson said.

“We had spoken about this trip for quite a few years and finally just said, let’s do it. It was incredible.”

The expedition brought together Wilson’s professional off-road riding experience and her father’s lifelong passion for adventure riding, creating what they described as a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

BUILT FOR THE LONG HAUL

Wilson completed the journey aboard a Husqvarna Norden 901, equipped with SW-MOTECH Sysbag waterproof panniers, Drybag tail bags and a Pro Daypack tank bag. The luggage setup provided ample capacity for camping gear, spare parts, tools, fuel, water and supplies required for extended unsupported travel.

Ted rode a Husqvarna 701 fitted with a Pro Cross WP tank bag, Drybag tail bag and Pro Cargobag, offering a lighter but equally capable luggage solution suited to the smaller machine.

Wilson said having reliable luggage made a significant difference to the success of the journey.

“I was very excited to have good luggage that would hold everything we needed,” she said.

“The SW-MOTECH collection gave me ample room for camping equipment, spares, tools, first aid, fuel, water and food, and the setup made unpacking and repacking each day much easier.”

TESTED IN AUSTRALIA’S TOUGHEST CONDITIONS

The unsupported expedition exposed both riders and equipment to extreme conditions, including deep sand, corrugated tracks, remote desert crossings and extended periods far from assistance.

SW-MOTECH said supporting riders like Wilson reflects the brand’s focus on real-world adventure motorcycling, where durability and reliability are essential.

“It was a tough 10,000km and we were very remote at times and had to carry a lot,” Wilson said. “The SW-MOTECH products more than fulfilled their requirements and my expectations.”

Beyond the terrain and distances, the journey was also about sharing a meaningful experience between father and daughter, exploring some of Australia’s most spectacular landscapes together.

From desert camps beneath clear outback skies to remote tracks rarely travelled, the adventure highlighted the enduring appeal of motorcycle exploration and the importance of reliable equipment when venturing far beyond civilisation.

For Wilson and her father, it was not just about completing a demanding route, but about embracing the spirit of adventure and creating lasting memories along the way.
